Smoothies = Self Love

Monday’s, for me, are madness, Messiful if you will. No one feels like jumping back into the weekly routine, least of all me. I love that they go to school, I’m not so crazy about the fact that I have to get them ready and take them. That’s why I make it a point to make nutrition a Priority. Otherwise, I’m cranky and hungry on top of all the hectic fun that seems to go with the day. But that’s not the Only reason.

Smoothies = Self Love and gosh darn it, I deserve it. And, you do too!

I could always eat a bowl of cinnamon brown sugar oat meal with dried cherries and coconut shreds and a sprinkle of salt, which is absolutely delicious, but it doesn’t make me feel like I’m Treating myself. Plus, I’d probably need to add in a multivitamin and I’d never remember to take it. It just doesn’t feel Decadent to me. Something about a smoothie does. They’re luscious and yummy and Don’t include all the dishes that go along with any other healthy breakfast. I want to enjoy a few moments without having to clean up afterwards. Everything goes in One cup and rinses clean super easy. Smoothies are something I can actually make happen on a Daily basis. Before I added them to my routine I barely ate breakfast. I don’t drink coffee so I don’t have anything else that really gives me a Morning kick, but with this one little ritual I don’t start the day with resentment because I feel my needs are irrelevant and the protein powder I add in makes my Body happy too. I may not always be able to control the trajectory of the day but I can make myself a smoothie and #managethemess.

A recipe I’ve come to love is what I like to call Mama’s Mood Swing, because it seems to actually mellow mine out.

Mama’s Mood Swing Smoothie

A handful of organic field greens

A few frozen organic peach slices

A few frozen organic cherries

A small handful of frozen organic blueberries

Maca (I use drops because they’re easy)

Brazil Nuts

Organic soy milk

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 Serving of Vega French Vanilla Protein Powder

It takes a few minutes to throw everything in my NutriBullet, and about 10 seconds to blend. I throw on the sipping lid and I’m done. I actually have Time to enjoy it before I get busy with the kids. Because I’m Messiful, though, I don’t always keep the ingredients well stocked. But, I always make sure to at least have the greens, milk, blue berries, and powder. While it may not have the same mood balancing effect as the full enchilada, it’s still packed with goodness and I actually think it’s even tastier! 🙂

Self love has to start somewhere, so set a few minutes aside just for you and your smoothie. I’m a big fan of simple and straight from the jar, adding a little fancy makes mama smile, go for it and get yourself a Special cup. You’re worth it! 😉

Hi, I'm Xavia, The Messiful Mama. I am the mother of 4 amazing, spirited children who save my life everyday. I pour myself into parenting and, although, there are plenty of days where that effort is full of chaos and drama and sometimes even hair pulling, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
